I have a few websites that get decent traffic. They are not businesses or anything like that. They are more a less blogs. I want to start trying to earn through them but I am not sure where to begin with even doing something like this. Should I try to work with ad networks or stick with affiliate programs?

I would say to start with making sure your website is up to standard in terms of speed, load time, and location. Make sure everything is running and performing as it should. You don't want to add anything on top of this until you know things are running smooth. It helps to see a growth in your traffic as well every 3 months. If you see an upward trend in your traffic that is stable and steady, you can look into programs like Ezoic to see if you quality.

That being said, you can start incorporating affiliate links at any time. I would start with the golden standard, that being Amazon Associates. It is fast to get approval and very easy to set up and earn from.

Does Amazon need to approve your website like Google does? I never actually tried signing up. I will look into it more. I know a lot of people recommend it. Even if it only earns me an extra $50 a month, that is worth it. That can cover my server bills.

When you sign up, you will need to provide a website and a niche you plan to promote. Like generally, most websites will focus on promotion of a particular item or group of items and this should match the content on your website. It is a lot faster than Google which I still believe manually mails out a code to you.

Promotion is probably the first step. If you offer products, you want to promote them and get people talking about them.

If you are trying to make money through content (ads) then you will want to get those set up but make sure the SEO is right and the content is good.
